CHARGERS RALLY TO DEFEAT BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE DEACONS, 82-76

Blauvelt, NY (12/1/07)  The Dominican College Chargers rallied from a seven point deficit in the second half to defeat the visiting Bloomfield College Deacons, 82-76 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action on Coach Baxter Court.

In the first half, DC jumped out to a 16-8 lead with 14:57 to go on a three point shot by junior Will Carty (Bronx, NY). Bloomfield rallied with a 8-0 run later in the half to knot the game at 21-21 on a layup by Omari Knox (Brooklyn, NY).  The Chargers built a seven point lead with 5:47 to go, but once again the Deacons rallied on a 11-3 run for a 34-33 lead with 2:43 remaining in the half.

Sophomore Brendan McManus (Pearl River, NY) netted a buzzer beating three point shot to lift the Chargers to a 42-40 lead at the break.

Bloomfield started off the second half with a 9-0 run to lead 49-42 on a layup by Barney Anderson (Jersey City, NJ).  The Chargers fought back with a 7-0 run for the fifth tie of the game, 49-49, with 15:14 remaining.

Dominican's Kris Knez (Astoria, NY) netted a jump shot to put the Chargers up 75-74 with 2:38 remaining and went on an 8-2 en route to the 82-76 victory.

The Deacons were led by Knox with 19 points and seven rebounds.  Anderson finished with 15 points and junior Charles Smith (Newark, NJ) had 12 points and a game leading 15 rebounds in the loss.  Nnamdi Ahaneku (South Orange, NJ) added 11 points and five steals.

The Chargers had five players in double figures, led by Carty with 16 points.  Freshman Tim Matchett (Pitman, NJ) had a season high 12 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) netted 11 points, seven assists and four steals in the win.  Juniors Damien Davis (Windsor, CT) and Dato Sakvarelidze (Tbilisi, GA) each had 10 points a piece.

With the win, the Chargers improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the CACC, while the Deacons fall to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.

Bllomfield will next square off against Nyack College on Tuesday, Dec 4 at 8pm as they look to even up thier conference record.
